Documentary collection is the order given by an exporter to the bank to collect a certain amount of money from the importer in return for commercial documents. Unlike a documentary letter of credit,  in the event of collection the bank agrees to fulfill the instructions of the seller’s collection order, but does not undertake to make payment.
